“When I was an Air Traffic Controller, I worked in the Jacksonville Air Route Traffic Control Center (JAX ARTCC), from October 1968 thru September 1972.
I worked sectors that handled the T-38’s that flew back and forth from Houston to Patrick Air Force Base (COF) near Cape Kennedy.
I knew that the astronauts had their own planes to go back and forth, and they only flew T-38’s.
Every chance I got, I would ask if they were astronauts. If they said yes, I would ask if they could send me a picture or whatever, and send it to the JAX Center addressed to me.
I would tell them I had a young son, that’s how David’s name got on some of the pictures.
All of the images, came from Astronauts I spoke with. They were always happy to do so.”
